Soluble Proteins
In cells, soluble proteins are a part of the cytosol. They can travel across membranes, be targeted to another organelle, or get secreted from the cell. One of these proteins is the GFP gene, first isolated in 1992 from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria, which, traditionally, acts as a reporter of expression in molecular biology.
