The essential proteins for the COVID19 disease - For your research
COVID19 is (most likely) the year defining topic of 2020 and 2021, even beyond life sciences and medicine. Trying to find a working treatment for the disease is crucial and Cube Biotech contributes to the global research. As leading experts in the field of membrane protein stabilization and solubilization it is a logical step for us to provide you with aliquots of pure & full lenght ACE2 , SPIKE and TMPRSS2 protein in MSP and synthetic nanodiscs.
Figure 1: Depiction of the SARS-CoV2 infection scheme.
First the surface protein of the Coronavirus called SPIKE is processed through a proteolytic cleavage by the cell surface serine protease TMPRSS2.
This brings the SPIKE protein into its active state in which it can interact with the cell surface receptor and metallocarboxypeptidase ACE2. This subsequently leads to the fusion on the virus membrane with the cell membrane similar to a vesicular import. This way the infection viral RNA genome enters the cell.

SPIKE: SARS-CoV-2's key into our cells.
The spike protein (S protein) is a large type I transmembrane protein ranging from 1,160 amino acids for avian infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) and up to 1,400 amino acids for feline coronavirus (FCoV) (Figure 1). In addition, this protein is highly glycosylated as it contains 21 to 35 N-glycosylation sites2.
We offer the SPIKE protein solubilized in three different ways: Synthetic nanodiscs, detergent micelles and MSP nanodiscs. Choose your favourite.
Alternatively choose our 3 in 1 set that contains all 3 options.
SPIKE - Full-Length & Complete by Cube Biotech
Right now, the lifescience market is flooded with coronavirus protein offers. But our own market analysis shows that only fragments or single domains can be obtained from other competitors. As experts for membrane proteins we successfully stabilized the full-lenght trimeric version of SARS-CoV-2's SPIKE protein.
Figure 2: Overview of the current state of the SARS-CoV-2 SPIKE protein market. Cube Biotech is the only company that offers the full-length trimeric & active version. Therefore Cube Biotech comes the closest to the native SPIKE proteins structure.
Cube Biotech offers 4 different antibodies for the surface protein of SARS-CoV-2, called SPIKE.
Working with SPIKE already? Or do you think of developing a COVID-19 antigen test for fast detection of the virus? For these purposes and more Cube Biotech offers four different antibodies against different domains of the SPIKE protein.
The following domains are covered:
ACE2 and TMPRSS2 - COVID-19's involuntary helpers
Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is an enzyme attached to the outer surface (cell membranes) of cells in the lungs, arteries, heart, kidney, and intestines. It is a zinc containing metalloenzyme located on the surface of endothelial and other cells.1
Transmembrane protease, serine 2 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the TMPRSS2 gene. Aside from the role in the SARS-CoV2 infection, its biological function remains unknown3
Cube Biotech at the Corona Showcase
In July 2020, we took part at the German Corona Showcase. Our manager Jan Kubicek, PhD held a talk regarding our Coronavirus proteins. We recorded the presentation. Have a look at it.
