Description

This new version of the classical DIBMAs 10 and 12 differs in its size and synthetization process.

The new DIBMA 6 is not only smaller than its predecessors (DIBMA 10 and DIBMA 12) but, together with Sulfo-DIBMA, belongs to a new generation of DIBMA’s that are RAFT polymerized. This achieves a reduction in both monomer size and lower polydispersity, meaning that if you need your copolymers to all have a similar size this is the copolymer to choose.

With DIBMA 6 you can directly extract membrane proteins from cells without an intermediate step of detergent solubilization, like with SDS which would usually interfere with your target protein's function. Another advantage of DIBMA 6 is the lack of an absorbance maxima at 280 nm. SMAs, in comparison, usually interfere with protein quantification, as aromatic amino acids absorb at the same spectrum.

Lab Results

Molecular Size Distribution of DIBMA 6 Nanodiscs
Fig. 1:Size distribution of DIBMA 6 copolymers synthesized via RAFT compared to other copolymers synthesized via classical methods. Shown is the reduction in both monomer size and lower polydispersity for RAFT synthesized DIBMA 6.
DIBMA Variants Comparison
Fig. 2: HRho-tagged membrane protein has been solubilized and stabilized from celll membrane in one step at 23°C with an array of DIBMA copolymer variants including the new DIBMA 6. Protein of interest was purified at 23°C from solubilizate via Rho-Magbeads, eluates were analysed via SDS-Page and Western-blot.
